Summerhill WI welcomed Rev'd Patricia Rogers for an insightful talk on Haverfordwest Street Pastors, highlighting their community support efforts.

Following a warm welcome from president Marlene, Rev’d Patricia proceeded to give an excellent talk on the organisation at the April meeting at Amroth Parish Hall. Along with her colleague Alana, she informed members about the background of setting up and running Haverfordwest Street Pastors Street Pastors which has its local base at the town’s Ebenezer Chapel.

Everyone listened with great interest to Rev’d Patrica, who was a very engaging speaker, as she talked about Saturday night forays outside nightclubs dispensing Haribo sweets, water, flip flops, first aid and even a shoulder to cry on. So immersed were ladies that the talk went way over time without anyone noticing! Dawn gave a vote of thanks for the talk which was described as ‘truly enjoyable and extremely interesting’.

Refreshments followed, served by Marilyn, Linnia and Margaret Jones, and Marilyn won the raffle.

The meeting continued with apologies noted and birthday greetings given to Ann and Dawn. Hilary was thanked for top table flowers and ladies for their food bank donations. Jane has been in hospital and get well wishes were sent her way.

Summerhill WI now has two new members, Belinda Jones and Ann Platt; it is hoped they will both enjoy being part of Summerhill WI.

Upcoming events were discussed, including the May outing to Grandiflora Gardens, which will be on Tuesday, May 13, meeting there at 11.45am for lunch followed by a hanging basket making demonstration. The June 9 meeting will be a cheese and wine social evening and the July outing will be to the National Botanic Garden of Wales. The Strawberry Tea will be on Friday July 4.

The correspondence was dealt with, the financial statement given and the Federation Letter read and discussed. Summerhill WI will be once again supporting the Rotary Club Shoe Box Scheme and boxes will available for filling during the Summer.

Members unanimously agreed that the raffle proceeds should be donated to the Haverfordwest Street Pastors.
