Mold Youth 3 - Tenby United Youth 57: A long bus trip and a very early start (don’t think the boys have seen 6 am) faced the young Seasiders in their last 16 Youth Bowl match at Mold RFC.

Arriving early at the ground allowed the boys to get the journey out of their legs and from the start showed their intent with a devastating counter-attack which led to inspirational captain Will Swales going over in the first few minutes; Harry Rossiter kicked a difficult first conversion.

From the restart, the forward pack gave their backline quality front foot ball which led to the second try by Joe Owen, cutting a beautiful line to score, again converted by Rossiter.

To their credit, Mold came back strongly and got their reward with a penalty, 14-3 to Tenby.

That was a little wake-up call the young Seasiders needed and then the tries came frequently, from number eight Callum Earland, wing Oakley Milton, scrum-half Ben Pugh and again Joe Owen.

Half-time came with the score at 40-3 to Tenby, after which the coaches emptied the bench, making all eight subs.

This had little effect on the way the boys played. Again the forwards were in no mood to let the Mold boys back into the game and consistently got over the gain line. A further three tries came, with Joe Owen going over for his third, then his fourth try.

The game was closed out by Ben Pugh, who scored the final try which put the game at a clear 50 points margin. Prop Jack Brown thought he was an outside-half and took the final conversion, but we’re still wondering if he knows which foot he kicks with - the ball ending up nearly hitting the corner flag!

Overall it was a great team performance, with the full squad of 23 players and travelling squad members playing their part in the victory. The travelling squad members and parents supported the boys with a lot of noise, this due to having a head start in the bar.

A fantastic welcome was given to all the squad and supporters in the Mold clubhouse, with three of the boys celebrating their birthdays, Morgan Davies, Joe Andrews and Dylan Johns, and were dressed up in their fancy dress for the rest of the evening.

The man of the match (voted by Mold) was Joe Owen for his four tries.

Coaches Richard, Leon and Guto, team manager Julia and all the boys would like to thank everyone for their good luck messages of support and thank you to Keith Walker (club sec/treasurer) and the committee for their generosity last weekend.

Special mention to team manager Julia Gooding for all arrangements - coach, hotel, restaurants, birthday boys fancy dress and general all round boss!

We now await the draw on December 2/3 to see who the young Seasiders will face in the quarter-finals.
