Tenby United RFC recently held their annual awards function at the club which was well attended and an enjoyable night was had by all present.
The following awards were made to celebrate the season, with all players mentioned below showing games played this season, which where appropriate is followed by games played in total:
• Most Improved Player was Mike Davies (21/45) - presented by Charlie Patching (16/26).
• Young Player of the Year was Kyle Hamer (12) - presented by Wyndham Williams (7/194).
• Supporters Player of the Year was Jonny Morgan (23) - presented by coach and dad Mogs (24).
• Coaches Player of the Year and second award was Jonny Morgan, with Cone (90) making the presentation.
• Players Player of the Year was Matthew Morgan (21) - presented by captain Luke Hansford (16/107).
Bouquets were also presented to Jade Hansford, special guest Tenby Mayor, Sue Lane and Sophie Evans, wife of chairman Matthew Evans.
Speeches were made by chairman Matthew Evans, captain Luke Hansford and head coach Chris Cone James, reflecting on a hard season and the effort put in by everybody in the club, culminating in a final nail-biting game against Felinfoel with a bonus point victory required to retain Division One West status - which was achieved and emphasising the work that was needed to be in a position to face up to next season in the section.
Thanks were also expressed to Mike and Jan Brace, Leila and Peter Toe James and all concerned in setting the night up, as well as to Kathy Scourfield (who was unable to attend) for her support to the players throughout the season. Special mention was made to Jonathan Boot for all his work at Heywood Lane, allowing the season to be completed without a game being cancelled due to the adverse weather, a feat unfortunately not repeated by any other clubs in the division, ending in a season that went on until May 19.
The final formal meeting of the season will be the AGM which is targeted for Tuesday, July 10, at 7 pm.
