Whitland and Llanboidy Branch of the British Legion with the Town Council, ATC and Memorial Hall have been spearheading the organisation of local events during the year, as part of the 2014 - 2018 global commemoration of the First World War Centenary.

This weekend, the third and final event for 2014 will take place, when a WWI exhibition will be held from today (Friday) until Monday, daily from 10 am to 4 pm.

The exhibition will include work from Ysgol Llys Hywel pupils with their interpretation of propaganda posters, etc.

Dyffryn Taf School Year 9 history students carried out research on many of the names listed on the local War Memorials.

The Llanfallteg History Society is also involved and will present some of their own research on local people.

As well as all of the above, descendants and relatives of some of those who fought in the First World War have lent some of their photographs, medals, mementos, etc. which will give an insight into their sometimes very personal stories.

The exhibition was preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in the Whitland Memorial Hall last Sunday, followed by a Remembrance Service in the church in Llanboidy.
