Two Pembrokeshire shooters have returned home victorious from the Home International Skeet Championships final at Lakenheath in Suffolk.

Deena Griffiths, who shoots at Telpyn Shooting Ground, Amroth, won the cup for overall international ladies high gun and the cup for ladies overall high gun, while with team partner Carol Francis, of Fishguard, they won the cup for international overall ladies team winners.

After shooting clays for a little under three years, Deena qualified for the Welsh team for the second year running this year.

At the event, the Welsh team competed against England, Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey and the Isle of Man.

Said Deena: "My final score on the day (Saturday) was a sucessful 98 ex 100, leaving me with not only the title of the highest scoring Welsh team member of 16 members (10 seniors, two juniors, two ladies and two veterans), but also winning the cup and title of overall ladies high gun from the competing countries, which in the history of this competition (over 25 years) has never been won by a Welsh shooter.

"Also my team partner, Carol Francis, of Fishguard, finished up with an exceptional score of 92 ex 100, resulting in the two of us winning the overall ladies team cup, which was also a first for Wales in the championships history."

Deena, who has shot in the Dyfed county team for the last two years, has also this year become the Dyfed county skeet co-ordinator.
