Rotarians soon came to the conclusion that since their club covered Narberth and Whitland, it was right and proper that they provide an appropriate facility at Whitland RFC.
Said project leader Rotarian Ken Morgan: "We are very pleased that due to the generosity of local builders, builders merchants and others, we were able to provide the ramp at Narberth with no cost to the Rugby Club. That is our intention at Whitland and that goodwill has already been shown for this project so that we have already made progress."
This time the facility will take the form of a glass and concrete building situated on the East bank high above the rugby pitch. Wheelchairs will be able to access the building which will enable users to watch the match in a dry, comfortable and light environment.
Recently, Rotarians, led by president Ted Davies, armed with rakes and shovels spread and compacted about five tonnes of stone and dust from G. D. Harries, in torrential rain prior to the arrival of the concrete to make the base.
Nick Viggars, of Green Circle Cement, supplied the cement in a super new lorry which he has recently introduced to Pembrokeshire and West Wales. This fantastic machine can mix, on site, up to 8.3 cubic metres. The operator has a computer console with which he can alter the consistency of the mix as required by the site operatives. Volunteers and Rotarians soon sorted out the base which is now complete.
"The response has been fantastic," said Rotary president Ted Davies, "but we still need some more funding to complete our budget. If you would like to donate, however small, please contact Ken Morgan on 01834862005 or 07799602258. This is a worthy project and one in which we can all be proud. We are very grateful to the following who have already contributed and all donors will be acknowledged on a plaque to be erected on the building."
