Pembrokeshire County Council will get a taste of what life is like inside a paperless office next week when it takes part in World Paper Free Day.

The Worldwide event takes place on Tuesday, November 6.

In a bid to reduce costs and change work practices, the Authority will turn off its printers and prevent outbound mail leaving the building via the mailroom to pledge its support for the event.

Cabinet Member for Transformation and IT, Councillor Neil Prior believes taking an active role in World Paper Free day is an opportunity for the Authority to review how and why print is used across the organisation.

“By not printing for a day we will reduce our print costs, reduce our risk around information loss and increase our environmental impact,” he said.

“Paperless working saves time, reduces clutter and allows information to be shared more easily.

“It also allows staff to become accustomed to working in a paperless environment which is something we are trying to achieve as we transform the way we work internally and communicate externally.

“We already offer paperless alternatives through our online services and it would be unjust for us not to work in a paperless environment when we are asking our service users to do just that through My Account.”
