Manorbier Twinners crossed the Channel en route for Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine in May.

Having brushed up their French in, ‘Twinner run’, conversation classes, longstanding and new members met their counterparts across the Channel for five days of fun and friendship.

In the nearby ancient, fortified, town of Provins, Twinners were entertained by jugglers, sword swallowers and fire eaters whilst eating and drinking medieval style in a candle-lit vault... all in appropriate costume, of course!

After travelling through the fascinating water gardens of Amiens in electric punts, Twinners enjoyed a guided tour of the stunning cathedral and explored the city centre shops and quaint riverside cafés before savouring a delicious dinner. Murals on city buildings provided a poignant reminder of this year’s commemoration of the ending of World War One.

The final evening was marked by a, ‘chic ou choc’, hilarious fancy dress supper during which Lin (Welsh chair) thanked her counterpart, Sylvie, and Alain, the Mayor of Vernou. Gifts were exchanged, including a painting of Manorbier Castle and a fearsome Ddraig Goch (see pic!)

Plans are well underway to receive our Vernou friends in 2020 (39th year). Thanks to all who support this cross cultures community event. New Twinners are always welcome. Contact [email protected]. for information.
