An exciting new international art competition launched last week in Milford Haven.

As part of a wider project originated by director David Randell of the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven Docks - Wales Contemporary/Cymru Gyfoes is a new international open art competition for two dimensional works developed in association with the Welsh Government and Visit Wales through European Grant funding.

The competition is the first part of the Waterfront Gallery’s ‘Inspired by Wales’ project and is administered by renowned art consultants Parker Harris of London.

Wales Contemporary/Cymru Gyfoes will celebrate all aspects of Wales by inviting artists to submit work inspired by its ancient history, its art history, heritage, landscape (rural, urban and political) and contemporary culture.

Following the judging, which will start in September with a panel of independent professional judges, up to 100 selected entries to the theme of ‘Inspired by Wales’ will be displayed at the Waterfront Gallery from October 4 to 30.

Director David Randell commented: “We’re delighted to be able to go forward with this project bringing additional artworks and both national and international artists to Pembrokeshire, spreading the word about contemporary creativity and Welsh culture.”

Following the exhibition at the Waterfront the work will then go on tour to London and Cardiff.

The main prize is £5,000, sponsored by a locally born supporter of the Gallery, plus a three-week residency and solo exhibition in Milford Haven.
