JULY 6 was a proud day for Prendergast School in Haverfordwest as they were presented with a £1,200 grant cheque in support of their participation in the 2026 Eisteddfod.

Prendergast CP School is the only English-medium primary school in Pembrokeshire invited to perform at the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las.

The funding, approved by Haverfordwest Town Council in June, was considered eligible as it supports the promotion of Welsh language and culture, participation in the arts, and enables young people to represent their school and community at a nationally significant cultural event.

During their visit, Haverfordwest Sheriff Cllr Dani Thomas-Turner, Mayor Cllr Randell Thomas-Turner and Deputy Mayor Cllr Adam Benson-Davies were treated to some outstanding performances from the school choir and wind and brass ensembles.

“The talent, passion and dedication shown by every pupil was incredible, and it was a privilege to witness the hard work of both the children and their dedicated staff,” said the mayor.

The 2026 Eisteddfod invitation follows the school's ongoing success at the National Urdd Eisteddfod, where their choir has proudly represented Pembrokeshire over the past four years.

Mayor Randell called it “a fantastic achievement that reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to promoting the Welsh language, Welsh culture and the performing arts.”

“As a Town Council, we are delighted to support opportunities like this,” he added, “helping young people to flourish while celebrating our culture, heritage and language.

“We wish every pupil, member of staff and supporter the very best of luck at the Eisteddfod. We know you will make both Prendergast and Pembrokeshire incredibly proud!”
