The future for Narberth pool is looking brighter.

Discussions have started between Pembrokeshire County Council and The Friends of Narberth Pool on the potential to transfer operations to a community enterprise.

It follows a meeting which took place on Monday morning between representatives for the county council and the Friends.

The county council's cabinet will now be asked to defer the planned closure of the pool on April 1 for three months to enable a detailed business plan to be completed.

A working party will look at issues such as staffing, funding and legal matters.

A public meeting will also take place at 6.30 pm on Monday, February 3, at Narberth Community Primary School.

The future of Narberth swimming pool has been highlighted in recent months following a proposal that consultation take place on the option of closing the pool from April 1 this year with a saving of £126,000 a year.

The proposal followed a recent review of all the county's leisure facilities as part of the council's search for efficiency savings.

The 20-metre pool was built in 1973 and is the only stand-alone pool in the county.
