The lifeboat, the crew and even the lifeboat house have always been of great importance to everyone in Tenby. Years ago, once the maroons were heard the whole town would rush to a vantage point to see the Henry Comber Brown, or the Sir Galahad and, more recently, the Haydn Miller as they swept out to answer Mayday calls. So it is gratifying, though not really surprising, that so many local people support our fundraising committee in so many ways and, indeed, we are always open to new ideas and new ventures to help raise funds.
Last week saw a great example of one of those new ventures. Linzi Sellers opened up the stunning White House on Castle Square for a coffee morning and cake stall. It was even more special because Linzi was born Linzi Crockford, a name closely connected with Tenby Lifeboat, and indeed, Tenby Harbour for many years.
The sun shone on us, making the views from the house even more spectacular, the coffee was delicious, and the cakes were stunning. They were made by Debbie Merrony (Gertie Gabble Cakes) and Taya Sellers and every taste was catered for. It was such a special occasion, particularly as many locals gathered to share memories of halcyon childhood days spent on and around the harbour when Linzi and family first lived in the White House. Everyone agreed that today it must be the perfect place to spend a holiday.
The coffee was made by Linzi’s delightful daughters, Taya and Nikita, who greeted everyone with a smile and made sure that even committee members were free to enjoy the occasion (apart from a little washing up!)
At the end of the morning, the grand total of £850 was raised, which included donations from Linzi and from her aunt Sheila.
The Tenby RNLI fund-raising committee are very grateful to all who helped particularly Debbie and Taya for making the cakes and Barbara and Juliet for selling them. But a very special thank you goes to Linzi whose idea it was, and who presided over the whole occasion with good humour and charm.
If you were unlucky enough to miss this special morning, don’t despair, as on Sunday we hold our annual Sea Sunday service on the Harbour alongside a delicious Strawberry Cream Tea served outside the Sailing Club. All welcome.
