The new bowling season got underway locally last weekend, so it is perhaps appropriate that this week’s Blast from the Past should feature another bowls picture. It has kindly been provided by Pembroke Dock Bowling Club member, Ken Edwards, who says it was taken in 1987 and is of a 12-hour bowls marathon which was held at the club. Running from 8 am to 8 pm, it was organised by the late Les Davies and raised over £600 through sponsorship towards the new pavilion building fund, with 25 per cent being donated to the Gamma Camera Appeal. The day also had a competitive edge with prizes (donated by Kismet of Pembroke) presented by a club president, Syd Edwards, to the winning trio of Hugh Colley, Brian Dowling and Ken Edwards, himself, who are the three fresh-faced ‘youngsters’ seen here. Perhaps now with a few more grey hairs, all three are still stalwart members of the Pembroke Dock club.
