The RNLI’s Mayday Appeal has been extended to cover the whole month of May and so far Tenby RNLI fundraising committee have managed to raise almost £700 for the appeal which, this year, is using the strapline - ‘Do Your Bit, Fund Our Kit.’
This appeal takes place all over Britain with yellow wellies as its symbol.
In Tenby, once again, we organised a Yellow Welly shop window hunt, and a street collection. Thanks must go to all the shops who so willingly hid a yellow welly in their window display, 20 in all.
The hunt proved a great success, with the winners being drawn from all the correct answer sheets by shop volunteers Mary Morgan and Sue Broomhead. These were: aged seven and over, George Hughes, and under 7, William Jenkins. Both received vouchers to spend in the Tenby RNLI shop, and all participants received a yellow welly pin badge.
Particular thanks go to Katherine John, of Morris Brothers, for help in providing a base for the bucket collectors on Saturday, and for selling the entry sheets, along with Clarice’s Toy Shop and the RNLI shop.
Very special thanks must, of course, go to the bucket collectors, who turn out cheerfully whatever the weather. They were: Doreen Mortimer, Liz Green, Althea Shaw, Vickie Chiffi, Barbara Pegg, Jayne Hughes, Jan Evans, Julia Dashfield, Julie and Colin Jenkins, David Morgan, Shan Thomas, Judy Brew, Anne Thomas-Ferrand and Nicole and Terry Evans.
The Mayday appeal has become an important part of the RNLI fundraising year and we would like to thank everyone who supported this worthwhile cause over the month.
The appeal continued with a very successful cake stall in the boathouse last Saturday and thanks go to all who contributed cakes and/or time.
Just to finish the appeal off, the raffle for the knitted lifeboatman which has been ongoing all month is due to be drawn today (Friday). So, a successful month of fund-raising.
The next event will be the strawberry cream tea and Sea Sunday service which will take place on the harbour on Sunday, July 8. All welcome.
