A man from Narberth has been fined after admitting producing 15 cannabis plants.
Twenty-nine-year-old Leon David Powell, of High Street, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday, to plead guilty to a charge of producing the Class B drug in Robeston Wathen.
He also admitted possessing six grammes of herbal cannabis.
Prosecutor Mr. Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told magistrates how police had executed a search warrant on August 12, at a farmhouse in Robeston Wathen, where Mr. Powell’s estranged wife lived.
“Police forced entry into a small outbuilding that was padlocked, and there discovered a tent with lighting equipment and a fan, with 15 cannabis plants being cultivated,” he said
“It was not particularly sophisticated, but some thought had gone into the set-up to keep the temperature right to grow the plants,” continued Mr. Pritchard-Jones.
Whilst officers were there, Mr. Powell arrived and admitted the offence, stating later in a police interview that he had decided to grow the cannabis plants after getting “fed up” of paying for it.
Police also found six grammes of cannabis when conducting a search of his flat in Narberth.
The defendant’s solicitor, Mr. Matthew Greenish, told the court that his client smoked cannabis as he suffered with anger management issues and it helped keep him calm.
Mr. Powell was fined £75 for the offences and ordered to pay costs of £85, a £20 victim surcharge and a £180 court charge. A destruction order was also imposed for the drugs.
