FOUR Junior members of Pembrokeshire Chess Club and one of its coaches participated in the Welsh Chess Union Spring Congress in Cardiff, incorporating the Welsh Junior Championships.
Coach Scott Hammett did extremely well, finishing in 2nd position in the Major Section.

Junior member Henry Burton played with distinction in the prestigious Open Section with fellow Juniors Osian Griffiths and Joe Othen competing well in the Under 13s and Under 9s sections.

Special mention to Pembrokeshire’s other Junior member, Daarshik Halder, gets a special mention for winning the Welsh Under 9s Section with 4.5/5.
His father said:
“I’m delighted to share that Daarshik has won the Welsh Junior Chess Championship (Under-9 category) held in Cardiff today.
“He remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, scoring 4.5 out of 5 points, and has been crowned the Under-9 Wales Junior Chess Champion.
“A heartfelt thank you to his teachers, coaches, and everyone who has encouraged him along the way.
“A memorable day for our family and a wonderful milestone in his chess journey!”
Daarshik also plays for one of the new clubs in the County, Fishguard. Other new clubs include Haverfordwest and Narberth.
