A Pembroke Dock man has been disqualified from driving after being caught behind the wheel of his car with a proportion of cannabis in his system.
Twenty-eight-year-old Kye Andrew Carl Bradbury, of Laws Street, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving his Renault van on the A4075 in Carew, with 5.5 microgrammes of the drug in his blood, exceeding the specified limit.
He also admitted a charge of possessing 1.22 grams of cannabis and 4.74 grams of cannabis resin, found in his home.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that on June 13, police stopped Mr. Bradbury’s vehicle for a moving traffic offence.
Officers spoke to him and could smell cannabis, and when they asked the driver if he’d been smoking, he said that he’d had a ‘couple of joints.’
A roadside saliva test proved positive and a blood sample at the police station showed that Mr. Bradbury was two-and-a-half times over the limit.
The defendant’s property was also searched and he fully accepted that the quantity of cannabis found was his.
“He gave no explanation to police as to why he’d driven after smoking two joints. He has three previous convictions on his record for drugs matters all of a similar nature for cannabis possession,” Mr. Pritchard-Jones explained.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that Mr. Bradbury and his family had suffered some rather tragic circumstances of late, after his sister was murdered, and they were currently waiting for the trial of the accused to take place at Swansea Crown Court.
He said that Mr. Bradbury was responsible for the driving aspect of the family business in fitting wood burners around the county, so losing his licence would cause considerable difficulty .
“He is very disappointed at himself and feels like he has let everyone down,” said Mr. Kelleher.
Magistrates disqualified the defendant from driving for 12 months and fined him a total of £200 for the offences.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
