Last Saturday was a cup race with three races; there were six boats on the water.
The first race was light winds and warm sunshine. It was won by Dibby in the RS200, followed by Peter in his Scorpion. The second and third were again won by the Scorpion. Racing continues Saturday at 5 pm.
Cruiser Race
Probably the best conditions of the season so far. Six boats turned out for a race in a force 2 to 3 westerly. The PRO Blake Shaw set the course around Eel Point and North High Cliff to port.
The fleet set off on a starboard tack, with Blake in Slipstream on the windward end of the line and pulled away. Having cleared the Skirs, everyone tacked down towards South Beach.
The boats chose different options, but staying inshore did pay off. However,?Slipstream overstood and Tony Spiller in Apatshe tacked earlier and just managed to round Eel Point ahead. Slipstream hoisted their spinnaker, took Apatshe’s wind and overtook on the downwind leg to NHC.
The fleet gybed onto a starboard reach back towards Tenby and it was just possible to use spinnakers.
Slipstream maintained her lead, with Steve Lwis in Aries and Apatshe having a close tussle for second place. Aries crossed the line second, but Denny Young in Heather came third on corrected time, resulting in Apatshe fourth, Phil Rees in Accolade fifth and Roy Lawrence in Chiron sixth.
A very enjoyable afternoon’s racing. Next race tomorrow (Saturday) at 6 pm.
