Club Sailing

A somewhat depleted fleet took to the water on Saturday evening with holiday and work commitments taking their toll. The two ospreys of Mike and Deanna and the Alistairs, as well as Richard John in a laser however had two cracking races on a triangular course set by the race officers Dan, Ruby and Scarlett Jackson. The races were closely contested with Mike and Deanna taking the first race and the Alistairs the second race with Richard third in both.

On a murky, grey and drizzly Tuesday evening, two Ospreys and a Phantom contested the club race run by Martin Munroe. A smallish triangular course was used because of the poor visibility, making for an all action race in the brisk westerly conditions. All got away promptly at the start and after some place changing and close crossing on the beat Mike/Deanna were first to the windward mark closely followed by the others. On the second reach, spinnaker issues on the leading Osprey permitted the others to pass. Ted/Lucas were building a lead ahead of the slower Phantom, but they then tried to fly their spinnaker on the second reach which was too tight, and lost ground. At the end, Jon in the Phantom took the win from Ted/Lucas; Mike/Deanna retired.

Junior training

Junior training will continue on Wednesday evenings starting 5 pm throughout the school holidays with the exception of Wednesday, August 10. Tenby SC is staging the Firefly national championships from August 6-12. Around 70 dinghies will be visiting us for daily racing.

However, it need not be a week off sailing.  We will be running five safety boats every day and a committee boat to start and finish the races. On-shore car park management, safety tallies checked etc etc. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help in any way, please contact me or Ted Lewis on [email protected]

Beginners Group

Most of the group have completed stage one and are well on their way through stage two.

Please make an effort to turn up, even if it looks like being too windy for sailing.

Five of our youngsters progressed to assistant instructor status recently which is a fine achievement. It also means our regular instructors can benefit from expert help on training nights. We provide training from RYA Stage 1 to 4, advanced sailing, Power Boat 1 and 2, first aid, and instructor training. We are also keen on introducing youngsters to try racing and hopefully join in the club racing nights on Tuesday and Saturday.

All this is done by volunteers and we would like to thank everyone who helps in any way.
