Club Sailing
It was grey and very calm at race time last Saturday week. After some discussion, it was decided to try to race and a small fleet put to sea for two races run by Ed Dashfield. A small triangular course was set, but the wind, which had showed signs of filling in, declined again to almost nothing.
At the start of the first race, Jon in his Phantom and Mike, a visitor, sailing a Devotti D Zero, started on port going out to sea, the Alistairs in their Osprey started on starboard heading inshore; Ted and Gillan in their Osprey started too soon and had to return to start properly. This was easier said than done with very little wind and an adverse tide and they were out of contention straight away. After one very slow lap, it was the Phantom first, D Zero second and the Alistairs third.
Some wind then arrived and a second race got underway immediately. It was still light, but at least the boats were moving. At the first windward mark it was the Ospreys of Ted and Gill from the Alistairs, followed by the single-handers. Over three further laps this remained the order, but the Ospreys failed to get far enough ahead to make up their handicap, so on corrected time it was the D Zero first, Phantom second, Ted/Gill then the Alistairs.
On Saturday, Richard Johns ran two races in pleasant conditions and a lightish south-westerly. Four Ospreys, two Lasers and Dan and Tracy in their new RS400 took part. In the first race, Ted/Gillan in their Osprey took an early lead, which they built on to the end to take the win from the Alistairs in second and Mike/Deanna third. The Laser battle was won by Dyfan, making the most of his light weight in the light airs.
A second race followed immediately, won by Mike/Deanna from the Alistairs and Dan/Tracy third. Ted/Gill were disqualified for starting too soon!
Junior Report
Usual strong winds last Wednesday curtailed the sailing. However, Howard’s group coped well in Toppers in the force five conditions.
The rest were given Rib training and fishing? Numbers were back to normal after the holidays, with 24 turning up.
Wednesday training will continue until the end of September. Ring Blake on 07717842713 for further information.
Cruiser racing
Last race of the season is this Sunday at 11.15 am. Hope for a good turnout.
Food at the Club and opening hours

Saturday Sailing
Saturday afternoon free sailing now on every Saturday under the watchful eye of Mark Dashfield. The idea is that new sailors, inexperienced, or those simply wanting to be on the water, can practice in an informal setting, but with a safety boat present and advice as required.
Club members have the choice of a range of club boats at no charge, for them to polish their sailing skills.
Saturday sessions will continue each Saturday from 1.30 pm, followed by racing at 5 pm for those who wish to take part. Please contact Mark Dashfield on 07971474517 if interested.
