Under12s

A wet Sunday morning saw St. Florence girls under 12s play their first home game of the season against last year’s under 12s champions, Narberth.

St. Florence carried on where they left off against Neyland with a dominant performance in poor conditions.

The squad consisted of Teigan (capt), Mabli, Ruby, Connie, Fiona, Maddy, Megan, Olivia, Sienna, Laura, Ellie and Alex.

St. Florence were quick off the mark with two quick goals from Mabli, followed by a goal from Ruby. Narberth were working hard and hit back with a goal.

St. Florence started to get a grip of the game, with further goals from Connie (2), Teigan (3), Fiona (3) and Megan.

Narberth fought bravely and were rewarded with their second goal.

It was a fine squad effort, with good displays also from Maddy in midfield, Sienna in defence and Laura playing out wide.

When called into action, both Alex and Ellie performed well in goal.

Under 10s

St. Florence girls started brightly with a couple of neat finishes from Holly and Neve. Within the first 10 minutes, they were 3-0 up. But Narberth showed great attitude and quickly scored two goals to get back in the game.

The girls realised they were in for a tough game and took control with some great finishing from Hettie, then Seren added some more firepower and the game was never in doubt from there on, mainly down to some great defensive displays by Libby and Bella, while Martha was cat-like in goal, making sure that Narberth never got back into it.

A rare moment in football then happened when both Holly and Hettie kicked the ball at the same time and so their ’keeper did not know which way the ball was going... until it hit the back of the net!

Tilly, Zoe and Marlie worked great together in midfield, not giving up and coming close to scoring a number of times.

Goal of the day, though, came from Kate, who struck the ball from what seemed like the halfway line and saw it fly like a rocket into the top corner.

The girls played exceptionally well and deserve great credit. Final score was 14-4. Well done.

Under 14s

The girls were playing their first game of the season on what was a horrible wet day.

The 11 players who turned up to play Narberth were disappointed that they had to play a six-a-side game as that’s all the players Narberth had. As always in a local derby, it turned out to be a very good, close game.

There was good defending from Hope, Ella Thomas and Ella Warren, playing her first game for St. Florence, to keep Narberth from scoring.

Narberth took the lead in the first half, before Ellie got a goal back for St. Florence when, after her first shot was saved, she reacted quickly to fire in the rebound.

There were some good saves by Emily to keep the score level when Narberth were attacking.

After Narberth took the lead again, St. Florence dug in to equalise through Ellie after good work from Halle and Charlotte to set her up. The score was 2-2 at half-time.

In the second half, Narberth started the stronger and scored three goals before St. Florence got going. The girls carried on battling, with Florence having a great game in midfield and Halle trying her best to get St. Florence back into it, covering the whole pitch.

The girls managed to get a goal back when Olwen won the ball back and started an attack, from which Halle scored after good passing from Charlotte and Ella Warren.

Despite the defeat, there were positives to take from the game.
