Athletes from across Wales descended on Cardiff on Saturday and Sunday for the Welsh Indoor Junior Championships.

With entries numbering just under 600 across the age groupings, competition for medals was tough at the National Indoor Athletics Centre. Many of last year’s champions returned to defend titles at this multi-sport event.

Following on from their successes at the West Wales Championships last month, local sisters Tegan and Maisy Foley headed to Cardiff to compete for the title of Welsh champion. Both girls performed strongly in their 60m heats, gaining PBs and securing places in the finals.

In the U20W final, 16-year-old Tegan competed against older athletes, including a GB junior athlete, only just missing out on a medal.

Twelve-year-old Maisy’s hamstring injury meant she did really well to finish fifth in the U13G 60m final.

Well done girls, a great start to the athletics season.
