Hello readers! The Frostbite series continued on Sunday with two races taking place on a drizzly and cloudy afternoon. The races were run in a rather unorthodox style due to the lack of a race officer, however the sailors were determined to get a race in. Therefore the decision was made to run the race from the safety boats whilst an assistant OOD helped from the warmth of the clubhouse. There was a F1-3 breeze blowing which dropped off through out the racing.
Once the assistant OOD declared it safe to race, the five minute countdown began. Four boats got themselves in position to started the race, however this was suddenly threatened by the mist that descended over the water. Fortunately, the mist lifted just in time for the race to commence.
The four boats made their way around the Pendine-Monkstone-Harbour course, with the three faster boats completing two laps whilst the Feva did one. Ed, our new club champion in the RS100 took first place with Dave P. coming in second in the Solo and Sam and Iolo in the Feva coming in third.
The second race started with only three boats as Dave P. had places to be and people to see. The course and wind remained the same, however the breeze dropped off at the end of the race so the boats drifted over the finish line.
The Feva was determined to give Ed a run for his money and looked like a boat on a mission with their spinnaker up, until Iolo fell out due to a broken toe strap! Sam successfully collected his crew but they were unable to make up the lost time.
This time Ed completed three laps whilst the other two crews completed two. As a result, Ed came first again, Mark and Trish in the Tasar came second (their best result this year!) and Sam and Iolo in the Feva came third.
Thanks go to James and shoreside assistant Alison on OOD and to Paul U. who helped James with OOD on the water whilst providing rescue cover as well.
There are a few important events coming up in the calendar. On Friday, the sailing club will be taking part in the Trick or Treat trail around Saundersfoot. On Saturday, the members are having a Hallowe’en party in the clubhouse which would be the ideal place to watch the Big “Double Bang” fireworks whilst enjoying a drink from the bar.
Finally, the SSC AGM will be taking place on Sunday, November 18, 2018 starting at 10.30. Any proposals for consideration must be submitted to James R. by November 11 otherwise they will not be eligible for this year’s AGM.
There’s a week off next week, so racing will continue on Sunday, November 4 at 14.30. See you there!
