Hello readers! On Saturday, 11 boats turned up for the next race of the warm up series.
Whilst the forecast had promised a reasonable breeze, the wind let us down once again, causing another less-than-extraordinary race.
As the five minute countdown began, the wind was pushing the boats around gently, however, when the one minute horn sounded, the wind disappeared, leaving many sailors stranded in front of the start line!
Whilst the six leaders got through the line fairly swiftly, the remaining five took what seemed an age to finally make it across the line.
As the boats set sail for Monkstone, it became clear that no one was moving quickly, but the five leading boats were swift enough around the course to be allowed another lap.
After the first lap, junior sailor Lloyd in his Laser Radial had held his own up with the fast fleet and was in first position.
However, the extra lap allowed the fast fleet to pull away, with Paul and Julia taking first place in the RS200, with Ed in second and Jo in third. Lloyd came fourth overall, but was the first of the silver fleet.
Another race was planned, however the lack of excitement, cool breeze and rain had people heading for the warmth of the clubhouse.
Huge thanks to John and Nina on OOD and to Tom, John R and Keith on safety cover.
The annual Push The Boat Out event will this year be held on Thursday, May 17, at 6 pm, at Saundersfoot Sailing Club. If you’re interested in having a go at sailing, bookings can be made with Jo Musson at [email protected]. It is free so come and try a session. Bring a change of clothes, shoes you don’t mind getting wet and a windproof top. The club will provide buoyancy aids to all sailors. The bar will be open in the club house afterwards.
The next two races of the season are on Sunday at 10 am. See you there!
