There was no club sailing last weekend due to the running of the second Saundersfoot Triathlon on Saturday, but several club members took part in what is proving to be a popular and well-attended event for both competitors and spectators alike with the centre of the village and the harbour being a spectacle of noise and colour.

Well done to all of those who completed the course, including club members James, Dave, Rob (Coppet Week entrant), John, Lloyd and Rosie while former member Will stood out in his yellow wellies and sowester raising funds for the RNLI.

The following day was a day of rest for all of these, but again the village was alive with the cycling section of Ironman Wales where these hardy souls battled against wet and windy conditions on this mammoth course.

Don’t forget that next weekend we have our annual Bart’s Bash race on Sunday starting at 1600 with one race for all forms of craft and various prizes on offer, including a special fancy dress prize created yet again by Terry, and following the race, the clubhouse will be open for the prize-giving, plus drinks and food.

The weekend after that we have our final club race of the main season (before the frostbite series begins in October) on Sunday, September 24, which will also incorporate the long-awaited junior and lady helm race within the main race. Following this it is planned to have a meeting of all dinghy sailors to discuss events this season and any possible changes for the 2018 season so please come along with your suggestions and offers of help.

To finish on a sad note this week, the club will be the poorer place following the recent death of Graham Wellman who has been a stalwart of the club for so many years as Bosun, informal house manager and a whole variety of other roles throughout the club and he will be sorely missed. It is a tribute to Graham that so many were able to attend his funeral at Parc Gwyn last week and our thoughts continue to be with Vanessa and Graham’s family at this sad time.
