Race report, Sunday, November 1

With the Rugby World Cup over and all the glitter swept up, it is back to concentrating on the winter sailing, alas at dawn on Sunday, it all looked a bit glum with mist and very little wind.

However, an expectant dinghy park seemed to be willing the breeze to pick up and sure enough it did which enabled our enthusiastic early morning OOD’s Paul and Julia to set a testing frostbite course in some light wind. The start went well with James off in front with the two Contenders hanging on as best they could. Nine boats ventured out which included a good mix of sailors with the Lasers all decked out in Radial rigs it seemed.

Jo was helming the club Laser 2000 with John as crew and I am sure determined to show Rose and Lloyd the way forward, or that was the plan anyway. The Tasar seemed to be full of enthusiasm if maybe its crew Mark and Trish were a bit too full of the previous night’s fireworks festivities. It was also great to see Ann back in her Laser after a short break from sailing this year.

The wind did enable a race but due to tides there could be no hanging around or the fleet would not be going back into the harbour the same way they came out. One race was planned and one race it was with a win for James in the Phantom, second Simon in the Contender, third Jo and John in the Laser 2000.

Thanks to the in charge OOD’s Paul and Julia, along with Tom and Terry on rescue and of course the slipway helpers who it would be a lot harder to launch without.

Sunday, November 8 - race start 14.30, with James and Terry as OOD.

Training

Malcolm, assisted by junior champion Hywel, were this week running a powerboat level 2 course for club members Nina, John, Rosie, Lloyd, Terry and Judy. The conditions were very testing out at sea, but they did manage to find enough time on the water for four of the club members, but Judy and Terry will have to wait till later this week if conditions agree.

Curry night and sailing talk

Great value and an evening not to be missed is on Friday, November 13, to start at 7 pm, in the sailing club to hear an excellent talk by Jim Ball who spent 10 years sailing around the world. We also have a curry organised and supplied by Seven Spice for £8 a head. Book early and contact Nina asap.

Jo also has an excellent range of clothing with club badges that she seems to be very busy taking orders for so don’t miss out on those and contact Jo as soon as possible as they may make a good dare I say it Christmas present.
