They played seven games in total, with some fantastic tries and good tagging. They won three, drew two and lost two, so not a bad day!
Tries were scored by Sonny, Harry, Ollie P, Dexter, Aidan, and Morgan, but with 10 tries in total. The player of the tournament goes to Sonny Davies. Well done Sonny.
Sunday’s awesome team: Harry, Ollie T, Dexter, Ollie P, Dylan, Aidan, Sonny, Carter, Morgan and Iori. Coaches Jimmy and Nick.
Thank you to all the parents for your continued support.
Under 8s
Tenby are in the fnals! Tenby Swifts Under 8s travelled to the Pembrokeshire Rugby Tournament, held this year at Fishguard RFC. Tenby played teams from all over the county, including Neyland, Milford, Pembroke and local rivals Narberth.
Tenby performed well in all games and showed the true spirit of rugby by shaking hands with all opposing teams and showing respect to rival coaches.
The coaching staff would like to thank all the parents for making the trip and supporting the team.
Tenby will play Haverfordwest in the final on April 30.
Under 10s
Festivals day saw Tenby U10s pitted against three other of the county’s sides.
The Seasiders’ first match was against Crymych. The sides were pretty evenly matched, although Tenby were slow to settle into the game, conceding tries before being able to pull them back. The game finished 3-3, with all of Tenby’s tries scored by a quick-paced Eddie.
Tenby’s second encounter was against Milford Haven. Tenby came out against Milford a better team and drove at Milford hard. Tenby showed good determination, some good tackling and rucking and didn’t allow Milford to penetrate their defence. The game ended with 10 tries to nil to the Seasiders. Tries: Eddie 3, Iwan 3, Finn 2, Rhys S 1, Cody 1.
Tenby’s final match was against their nemesis, Haverfordwest Blues. Tenby began well, fighting hard, and by half-time, the Blues had only managed to penetrate Tenby’s defence and try line by four tries. However, following half-time Tenby seemed to lose their fight and a strong Blues side gave the Seasiders no let-up. The final score Blues 10 Tenby 0.
Although disappointed not to make finals day this year after last year’s good run, Tenby now have some touring sides to welcome to the Clicketts over the next few weeks and look forward to playing against these teams.
Team: Eddie, Iwan, Finn, Cody, Rhys S, Rhys E, Imogen, Ollie, Keaton, Dan, Ieuan, Tom, Jobe, George, Derri, Rhydian.
Under 11s
Last Sunday saw Tenby Swifts U11s host Pembroke Dock Quins at Heywood Lane in an eagerly anticipated semi-final of the Pembrokeshire Cup.
After winning the toss, Tenby kicked off and were on the attack straightaway. Excellent interplay between forwards and backs saw the ball spread wide for Iori to beat the defence with a try in the corner.
However, the lead was short-lived as the powerful Quins pack made inroads again and again into the home team’s half with a well-worked try.
Soon after, the Swifts regained the lead, with strong running sending Fletcher over for a try.
If they thought this was how the game was going to develop, the Swifts were in for a shock as the Quins forwards tore into the home side and scored two well-worked tries before the interval. Half-time score 21-14 to the away side.
Stung into action after some harsh words during the break, the Swifts began to show signs of how they have played this season, with the forwards generating quick ball to the backs, who showed neat handling, which resulted in second tries of the game for both Iori and Fletcher.
As their confidence began to grow, the forward pack won turnover ball from a Quins attack, and the ball was fed out to Iori, who outpaced the defence to extend the Swifts lead.
To their credit, the Quins never gave up and another strong drive by their forward pack saw the deficit cut to just one score. With time running out, the nerves were beginning to tell in the home side and mistakes led to the Quins counter-attacking from their own half and deep into Swifts territory. But fine work at the breakdown by Dylan D and Duane-Lee saw a penalty being conceded, and with time up, the Swifts kicked the ball dead to seal the win by 35 points to 28.
A hard fought game played in great spirit both on and off the field; both sides were a credit to their respective clubs.
For Tenby Swifts, this win puts them into the Under 11s Cup Final to be played at Crymych against opponents to be confirmed later this month.
Swifts team members were: Ollie, Iorri R, Kyle, Dylan D, Iori B, Alex, Cameron, Dylan J, Fletcher, Ciaran, Miller, Jake and Cameron.
