Tenby Swifts Under 10s hosted Llangwm at home last weekend. Tenby are unbeaten so far this season, so confidence was high.

Captained by Ethan Wright, the Swifts took to the field; however the first 10 minutes didn’t quite go to plan for the young Seasiders. Tenby’s defence was solid as ever: however missed passes, dropped balls and knock-ons plagued the team and every attacking play was stopped dead in its tracks by basic mistakes.

A stop in play allowed the coaches to round up the players and steady the nerves.

Whatever the coaches said must have worked as the Swifts kicked up a gear and the attacking plays clicked in and the tries started to flow.

Link-up plays from Ethan L, Rhys B and Tyler kept Llangwm on the back foot and the natural power of Thomas, Iestyn B, Will D and Bennet kept the ball in the home team’s possession.

Will H, George, Evan C, captain Ethan and new signing Jayden kept Llangwm’s defence busy; however, player of the day went to Jack Henson, who covered every inch of the pitch in both attack and defence, and was an important part of Tenby’s success.

Tenby finished 15-5 winners.

Try scorers - Ethan L (4), George (2), Will H (2), Ethan W (2), Rhys (1), Evan (1), Jayden (1), Thomas (1), Madoc (1).

UNDER 13s

Last weekend saw Tenby Swifts Under 13s make the long journey into north Carmarthenshire to play against Newcastle Emlyn.

The home team have a reputation of being very tough to beat on their home patch and so it proved as they made early inroads into the Swifts’ half of the pitc,h but great defence saw a counter-attack up field, resulting in a fine try for Duane-Lee

The home team were straight back on the attack and a converted try gave them a lead by seven points to five.

The Swifts were trying to exert pressure back on the home team, but time and time again lost the ball at ruck time, which allowed the Newcastle Emlyn team to clear their lines.

But as the half drew to a close, two well-worked moves resulted in tries for Dylan and Iorri R, to bring the score at the break to 17-7 to the Swifts.

The second half was an end to end affair, with tries by Dylan, Iori B and Duane-Lee being cancelled out by three from the home side.

A number of stoppages for injuries meant the second half was extended by around 10 minutes, but the young Swifts showed their excellent fitness levels to finish the game on top with Max J bursting his way through the defence for the final try.

Eventually the referee blew the final whistle with Tenby Swifts coming out on top by 41 points to 26.
