SENIOR XVs
Sadly, the much-anticipated home Pembrokeshire KO Cup round two match versus Fishguard, set for a week ago yesterday, had to be cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. A new date for the match has yet to be set and will be advertised on the club website, social media and local press as soon as it is confirmed.
Tomorrow (Saturday) represents a very important day for the club’s Senior and Youth teams, both of whom are playing in their respective WRU Cup competitions, with a fervent hope to progress.
Pembroke’s First XV are playing away at Laugharne in round five (last 16) of the WRU Bowl, kick-off 2 pm. A large contingent of supporters will be accompanying the squad in their quest to move into the quarter-finals. The bus will leave the club car park at 11.45 am, the clubhouse will be open beforehand for refreshments. Neither team has played for a number of weeks, because of the Autumn International series, so both, whilst being a little ring rusty, will be highly motivated by the chance of progressing to the next round.
A week later, Pembroke will travel to Neyland in the league, followed by the hugely anticipated return local derby against the Quins at home on Saturday, December 30, kick-off 2.30 pm.
On the evening of the Quins match there will be musical entertainment to create a party atmosphere from 8 pm.
On Tuesday, December 26, the annual Exiles match will be played, kick-off 2 pm. Ex- players wishing to participate should notify Scott Powell (club captain), Nick Shiels (via Facebook) or simply add their names to the list inside the clubhouse in advance.
YOUTH XV
The young Youth squad take on Nelson RFC at home tomorrow (Saturday). Whilst they have very little knowledge about the opposition, the whole squad are highly motivated and very keen to progress. The coaches have been very impressed by the form shown by their young charges to date and have high expectations, but are fully aware that the visitors will also want to make a statement and gain the bragging rights in this East v West encounter.
UNDER 15s
The squad hosted a very strong Newcastle Emlyn side last weekend. The Emlyn side is almost to a man the East Carms. District side and proved a very difficult challenge for the Pembroke lads.
After an intense and mostly one-sided game, Emlyn ran out very worthy winners at 34-7. The Pembroke coaches, however, were extremely positive about the effort their lads had put into a very entertaining game.
Emlyn’s defence proved extremely solid, despite a number of forays by the home team in both halves, and their attacking prowess was demonstrated especially in the second half as the home team tired under a constant bombardment from the Emlyn’s very talented backline.
The Pembroke lads learned a lot from this tough match and will use this experience to build on their own performances in forthcoming games.
