YOUTH XV

With no senior rugby fixtures at the weekend, attention shifted to the Youth XV, who travelled to Crymych, where they expected the customary tough encounter.

The match was played on the Crymych reserve pitch, which is a severely sloping ground that can provide an advantage to either side and a genuine game of two halves; the match as it turned out revolved around this slope advantage.

The younger Pembroke squad played very well in the first half, scoring some well-crafted team tries down the slope to wrest the lead at the break. The Pembroke lads showed real spirit, some excellent skills in attack and determination in defence against an older, more mature and experienced Crymych outfit.

Crymych took full advantage of the slope in the second half and against tiring Pembroke legs, they too built up some very good team tries and eventually ended up winning an exciting and entertaining game by 38-19.

Whilst the Pembroke coaches praised their whole squad for a plucky performance, they acknowledged the experience and determination of the home squad, which had carried them to a deserved victory.

The Youth will play Haverfordwest at home in the first round of the WRU Youth competition next weekend, KO at 2 pm.

WRU BOWL

Next weekend, October 28, sees the First XV travelling to Cefn Cribwr RFC in the third round of the WRU Bowl competition, kick-off 2 pm. The club is putting on a supporters’ bus, separate to the players’ bus, which will return earlier. All supporters wishing to travel on this bus have to sign up on the list on the club noticeboard (in the club foyer) no later than 6 pm on Monday, October 23; the notice also sets out all trip details and payment can be made on departure on the Saturday. A final decision on whether there is sufficient interest to book the supporters’ bus will be made on Monday night; those signed up can call the steward to seek confirmation on Tuesday evening.

UNDER 17s

The U17s squad will have played their second fixture last night, at home to Haverfordwest, so a report on their game will appear in next week’s edition.
