Felinfoel 41 pts Tenby United 3: With the original fixture switched due to the expected full clubhouse in town watching the England v All Blacks and Wales v Australia matches, FMB sponsored Tenby United travelled east to Felinfoel with a team showing 10 changes from that which took the same journey at the end of last season and came away with a win and bonus try point which kept them in Division One West.
Unfortunately, the same victory could not be pulled off this time as top of the table Felinfoel, cheered on by their president, Phil Bennett, and a sizable crowd, totally outplayed the young Tenby United side in every aspect of the game.
A reasonable first half performance by Tenby, playing with the wind in their favour, saw them turn around 15-3 down, with wing Elliot Dawe running in two tries and influential number eight Curtis Morris crossing for the third, with Tenby responding with a Lloyd Thomas penalty.
Taking full advantage of the gusty breeze behind them, Felinfoel ran in another four tries in the second half, with Elliot Dawe claiming his hat-trick, Morris crossing for his second, with other tries added by James Wood and Aled Roberts, who also kicked three conversions.
Despite being on the back foot for the majority of the second half, the Tenby defence showed great resolve to keep a rampant home side to four tries and, despite the scrum being pushed back at a rate of knots at every scrum, number eight Jack Broadhurst and scrum-half Ben Pugh worked wonders getting the ball away from the base of the scrum.
With a Development XV game against Llangwm this week there will have been an opportunity for the coaching group to try out some new combinations as they prepare for the bottom-of-the-table clash down at Kidwelly tomorrow (Saturday.
Tenby United fielded: Lewis Davies, Jack Tucker (Mark Hamilton), Jason Ronowitz Aaron James, Jordan Asparassa, Lloyd Thomas, Ben Pugh, Huw Evans (Jack Davies), Tom Barrass, Wes Bonser (Ethan Morgan), Charlie Patching (Richard Jones), Luke Dedman (capt), Mike Davis, Harry Phillips, Jack Broadhurst.
