Tenby United 9 - Tycroes 13: Thirteen seems to proving an unlucky number for Tenby United.

The previous week they lost to Milford Haven by 13 points to six, while last?Saturday it was Tycroes who registered a ‘baker’s dozen’ against them in a closely contested encounter at Heywood Lane.

And again that proved enough to consign the Seasiders to defeat in a match which they must have fancied their chances of winning, as unfortunately they could only respond with nine points of their own.

Tycroes had arrived at the ground sitting below the United in the Division Two West?table and things looked promising for the home side when fly-half Harry Rossiter landed a penalty to put them into an early lead.

But as it turned out that was to be their only score of the opening half as Tycroes hit back with a try by prop Trystan Morgan, converted by centre Elgan Griffiths, who also banged over two penalties to give his side a 13-3 half-time lead.

Having regrouped at the break, the United began to dominate proceedings in the second period and kept themselves well in contention with two more penalties from the boot of Rossiter.

Indeed it set up a nail-biting, but heart-breaking finale, as after camping on the Tycoes line in the final stages, a series of scrums eventually saw Luke Dedman force his way over for what everyone (including the visitors) thought was the match-winning try.

Unfortunately, the only person that mattered, the man in the middle, begged to differ and the ‘would-be try’ did not stand, leaving the disappointed United to again reflect on what might have been.

They will have a chance to rectify matters tomorrow (Saturday), but will have a tough task on their hands as their opponents away from home are second placed Mumbles.
