Pembroke Dock Quins 25 - Cardigan 11: The Quins pulled off a gritty bonus point win against a determined Cardigan side on a cold afternoon at Bierspool on Saturday to remain league leaders.

It took until the 20th minute for the scoreboard to be disturbed as both sides threatened in the early stages.

Quins debut outside half Tyler Castle was on target with a simple penalty after the Teifisiders were caught offside in front of their own posts.

The hosts were getting on top and a powerful 35 yard run from second row Ollie Parsons could have resulted in a try, but fortunately they did not have wait to long, as after sustained pressure on the visitor’s line Castle scythed through to touchdown under the posts.

He added the extras to put the Quins 10 up with 25 minutes gone.

It did not take long for the visitors to respond, when the Quins were again penalised for offside.

Full back Llyr Jones slotted over from virtually in front of the posts to reduce the deficit but with the last move of the half the Quins grabbed their second try when right wing Josh Brown who had to work hard to get over the line finished off a fine threequarter move to touchdown wide out.

Castle missed the conversion but the Quins were happy to go in 15-3 to the good.

The Quins hit the visitors hard right form the start of the second half when left wing Gethin Bradney scored his second try of the season in the corner with just three minutes gone.

Castle missed the conversion from wide out.

For the Quins now it was all about the bonus point try, but Cardigan hit back when Llyr Jones punished another Quins discretion to pull the score back to 20-6.

The hosts though wanted that bonus point badly and it was not long in coming after centre Jack Price made the hard yards, and with the ball recycled it ended with second row Ben Gibby again scoring in the corner.

Castle missed the extras but the Quins now had the all important Bonus Point in the bag.

For the last 20 minutes the Quins seemed to go off the boil a bit, and with a 25-6 lead it looked job done, but Cardigan hit back with a try from right wing Gywern Phillips.

Jones missed the Conversion, but it was all Cardigan now as they tried desperately to get some consolation of a losing Bonus Point.

But for the Quins at the end, it was job done before they travel to Haverfordwest tomorrow (Saturday) for their biggest challenge since the opening day win at Lampeter.
