The members of the club decided to have a golf match with teams representing Wales and England on the day of the big rugby event on Saturday.
There were eight on each side, a mixture of ladies and men. The match was over 16 holes, with the best team stableford score counting on each hole.
The first match was the club captain Mike Swain and his partner Rob Davies taking on the club manager Mick Seal and his partner Kenny Breaker. This was a tight fought match until the 10th hole when Mick Seal chipped in for four points. However, the next hole was followed by an excellent three by Rob Davies and a par by the captain for seven points; their excitement was short-lived as this was followed by Kenny who also got a three and Mick with a four. The winners of this match were Mick and Kenny with 57 points to 54.
Representing England in the second match were the husband and wife team of Anita Davies and Jack. They took on the husband and wife team of Lynne and Keith Rees, England once again taking the spoils as Anita eagled the first to put their mark on the match at the very beginning.
The third match saw Mary Lewis and Sharon Kaye for Wales up against Lynn Messingham and Carole Blackwell, with once again the English pair proving too strong for the Welsh.
The final pairings were husband and wife teams of Sue and Keith Leverton against and Christina and Cliff Jackson. Cliff getting nearest the pin on the fifth was the highlight of the Welsh team’s performance as they lost to the strong English pairing.
Fun was had by all, with most of the teams getting into the spirit of the event by dressing up for the day. The group were then treated to a great burger and chips after the match provided by the new chef Russ.
The winning pair of Mick and Kenny took the main prize for the day for the English, with Mike and Rob winning for the Welsh.
The club will be running free golf lessons on April 6 for absolute beginners. If you are interested, please ring 01646 621453.
