Our Irish friends recently travelled to Trefloyne for the annual Ryder Cup tournament. With the course in fine condition and great golfing weather, all was set for a good match.

On day one it was green-some foursomes. At the end of the day, Wales led five matches to three.

Day two - fourball matches were held at Derllys Golf Club, where Ireland took the lead 8.5 to 7.5.

Day three saw both teams back at Trefloyne playing singles matches, which would complete the Ryder Cup format of matches.

This was three days of challenging golf and Ireland had fielded a strong team, so Wales had to fight for every point, which went down to the last singles game of the day, with the final score resulting in Wales winning 16 matches to 15.

At the conclusion of the matches, the Brian Anderson Bridge was officially opened by club captain Robin Lloyd, who delivered an emotional and respectful speech, before asking Brian Anderson’s son, Sam, to cut the ribbon and to declare the bridge open.

This was followed by Meurig Evans spreading the ashes from the bridge before the Ireland captain presented the cup to the victorious Wales team.
