Carew are setting the pace at the top of division one of the Thomas Carroll Pembroke County Cricket League after a 61-run victory over near neighbours Lawrenny.

Batting first, Carew amassed a formidable toal of 240 for 5, with Tim Hicks leading the way with a fine knock of 87 and Tom Davies also chipping in with a useful half century.

Davies was also in good form with the ball as he helped skittle the visitors for 179 with 3 for 38, but best figures came from Ceri Brace with 4 for 56, despite solid resistance from Lawrenny’sHarry Thomas with 55 and Brad McDermott-Jenkins with 33.

Cresselly registrered their first win with an impressive display at Saundersfoot, where they ended up 42 run victors.

Saundersfoot posted a total of 170 thanks mainly to an excellent innings of 63 by John Mansbridge, with Sam Franklin (36) and Danny Caine (29), but the rest of the batsmen had no answer to the guile of Ryan Lewis, who had them in a tangle as he returned fine figures of 5 for 25.

Cresselly passed the home total with three wickets to spare, with Phil Williams top scoring with 66.

Elsewhere, Whitland had to be content with a draw against visiting Haverfordwest, despite the efforts of Dylan Blain, who smashed 74 in something of a run fest at the Borderers’ ground, with Paul Davies adding 37 and Matthew Davies an unbeaten 36 in their tidy total of 207 for 5.

But unfortunately that was still not good enough to earn them victory, as the Town had set them a formidable target of 275, thanks mainly to some big hitting from Simon Holiday, who kept the scoreboard ticking over at a rate of knots with an unbeaten 125.

Match of the day, though, probably came in division two where Kilgetty must have thought they were sitting pretty after piling up a massive total of 264 for 9, Ross Hardy showing his class with a superb 120 and Toby Poole weighing in with 55.

But Narberth obviously had other ideas as they set about chasing down the target in impressiver style.

In the end they got there with six wickets in hand, as Richard Adams led the way with his own century, finishing unbeaten on 102, while good supporting knocks came from Lewis Hough 55 not out and Loui Dasvies 37.

On what was obviously a good day for batting, another to reach three figures was Lamphey’s Peter McGilloway, whose 103 not out helped his side to a nine-wicket victory in division three against Llangwm Seconds... and not content with that, he had earlier shown his skills with the ball as he returned bowling figures of 4 for 28.
