After their victory against local rivals Cresselly, Carew travelled to play Bronwydd in the next round of Village Cup last Sunday.

Carew won the toss, elected to bat first and were indebted to Ian Sefton and Tim Hicks for their final total of 218. The pair put on 90 runs for the second wicket in only 13 overs as the Bronwydd bowlers were unable to stem the flow of runs.

Hicks went for 43, but Sefton remained and was eventually out 93 off just 103 balls with 15 fours and two 6s.

Tom Scourfield with 18 and Luke Hicks with 14 reached double figures as the score was restricted by some sharp fielding and a spell of nine overs from Tom Gleeson which gave him figures of 5 for 41.

In reply, Bronwydd got off to a great start with an opening partnership of 79, before James Hinchliffe took the first of his four wickets.

A second wicket fell one run later, then a partnership of 69 looked to be putting Bronwydd in the driving seat. However three wickets from Iori Hicks and some superb fielding restricted them to a final total of 208 for 8.

Carew will now travel to Warwickshire to face Water Orton CC on June 26.
