Five Arches 78 (10 pts) Milford 75 (4)

On a pleasant August afternoon, the Five Arches took on Milford in the Pembrokeshire League. In the reverse fixture, Milford had won by the slim margin of three shots, so another tight game was expected.

On rink one, Dai skipping, Dave, Viv and John had a tough game against Dave Buchanan and his team. Trailing by 13 shots to five at 10 ends, they closed the gap shortly after tea, only for the Milford four to ease away again to win by 20 shots to 13.

Webbie and his gang of Ken, Bill and Beano continued their winning ways. Another strong performance from all four players saw them come from three shots down after eight ends to win 11 of the remaining 13 ends to win comfortably by 28 shots to 16.

Tony and his rink of Roger, Tony and Neil had an afternoon to forget. After three wins in a row, the wheels fell off in this game. Trailing by 17 shots to three at tea, they fought back in the second half, including picking up a very important two shots on the last end, to finally lose by 33 shots to 13.

James and his rink of Mike, Jonno and Steve, in contrast, had an afternoon to remember. Never troubled throughout the whole match, they won 16 of the 21 ends to run out very comfortable winners by 24 shots to six.

Once again, a great performance by the Five Arches team, 14 shots behind at tea and 2 shots behind going into the last end, a great last end by all four rinks ensured a fine victory. Next up, reigning champions Tenby, who they were due to play last (Thursday) night.

Rink scores (Five Arches first, Milford skips only) were as follows:

John Rees, Dave Lloyd, Viv John, Dai Spencer 13; Dave Buchanan 20.

Ken Lloyd, Bill Benham, Huw Nicholas, Jon Webb 28; Ernie Sturley 16.
