Five Arches 78 (10 pts) Pembroke Dock 71 (4)
After last week’s encouraging performance against Haverfordwest, we welcomed Pembroke Dock to Tenby on a cold April afternoon. With our new shirts dazzling the opposition , the Five Arches started brightly. On rink 1, Ashley, together with James and Mike and the Australia bound Jonno, hurried into an early lead, which they maintained through to half-time to lead by 13 shots to seven. A storming second half, including a count of five shots on the last end, saw them home to a 30 shots to 13 victory.
Webbie, Beano and the returning Turbo and Ken were up against it on rink two. After a slow start , they trailed by 12 shots to four at tea. A tight second half ensured the Pembroke Dock quartet did not run away with the game. The end result a 20 shots to nine victory for the Dock boys.
Neil assisted by Steve, TP and John also had a slow start, 10 shots to nil down after six ends, however by tea they had pulled right back to be level. The Pembroke Dock rink then pulled away slightly in the second half to gain a 23 shots to 15 victory.
Our dream team of Viv, Dave, Dai and Simon continued their serene progress on their favourite rink four. Starting like a train, they led by 11 shots to three after six ends and by 17 shots to seven after 12. After dropping a few shots in next couple of ends, they eased to a comfortable 23 shots to 15 win.
A good win with a good finish over the last two or three ends across the board to gain the victory. We have a break for two weeks before the next game, in Saundersfoot on May 13.
Rink scores (Five Arches first, Pembroke Dock skips only) were as follows:
Mike Day, Jon Hubbard, James Criddle, Ashley Hooper 30; Brian Dowling 13.
Ken Lloyd, Tom Lewis, Huw Nicholas, Jon Webb 9; Richard Jones 20.
John Rees, Tony Powling, Steve Davies, Neil Dickinson 16; Mathew John 23.
Viv John, Dave Lloyd, Dai Spencer, Simon Evans 23; Reg Thomas 15.
