A combined report this week as I have been busy organising the Saundersfoot Open Tournament which is taking place every day this week, with finals day tomorrow.
Just a quick word about this annual event first, I would like to thank on behalf of the club The Heritage Park in Stepaside, Absolute Bowls and Templeton Beer Wine and Spirit Company for their continued sponsorship, without which the competition would not be able to take place.
Photographs and a full report will appear in the Tenby Observer next week.
Let’s start with a high and the continued success of the St. Issell’s ladies team.
As reported last week, they gained all six points with a home win over Pendine and playing two home matches since then, won both of them!
Against Whitland, who have won the ladies league for the last two seasons, they gained a 16-shot win and a further six points with the Christine Harris rink defeating Cally Jones by 20 to 16 and the Shirley Cox four being victorious by 22 shots to 10 win over Viv Kerrison.
On Sunday, they defeated Pembroke Dock, gaining four of the six points leaving them still top of the league with three games remaining.
Anything can happen, but fingers crossed for a first league win for the team.
Now for the lows!
The Saundersfoot first division team’s bid to win their league for the first time since 2006 unfortunately became further derailed last week when they suffered a four shot defeat at home to Haverfordwest, picking up just four points.
After such an impressive start to the season, the initiative has now been handed to Tenby who are hot on their heels with games in hand.
The St. Issell’s Second Division boys continue to blow hot and cold.
Having defeated Pater, of Pembroke Dock, at home, by 25 shots recently, in the return game they suffered a narrow defeat.
Here’s hoping that they turn on the style next Sunday when they play in the Brains Cup final at Pembroke Dock.
Good luck to captain Richard Whittaker and his selected team in their bid to bring back some silverware.
Finally, best wishes to the our ladies county team who play Mid Wales at Brecon, also on Sunday, in a bid to reach their third successive Savegar county final in successive years.
P.B.
