Pendine green had their opening day on April 8 when president Eleanor York rolled the first bowl and there were in excess of 35 members present who rolled up on a warm sunny and enjoyable day with a buffet thereafter. Also the following day on Sunday, the men played against the ladies with a light tea and drinks after. However, last Saturday Pendine entertained a friendly match versus Tenby Five Arches team which turned out, on a dry and chilly day, to be a very competitive and an excellent early practice game.

On rink one skip D.K.T.’s rink faced Neil Dickinson’s four and a close game ensued with leads Don James and Ken Lloyd matching each other throughout and Arches skip Neil equalling DKT’s efforts which ended in a fine drawn game 20-20.

Rink three also had Mal Evans’s unit facing Jonathan Webbs’s four where each side were in good form and after ten ends Pendine were 8-4 up, but with some effective firing shots from Webby, the Arches were up 16-12 by the 15th end and won 20-15.

Rink four saw skip Arwel Edwards, four against Arches quartet skipped by young Cameron White, and at 10 ends, the Arches were up 12-8, but by the 15th it was all-square but the Arches won five of the last six ends to win 23-18, but on rink five, it was a different matter with skip Geoff Hale and third Mal Dix opposed by skip Ben Cloake and third Ashley Hooper (capt) which saw Pendine in exhilarating form and 11-0 up after five ends. They stayed in complete control being 24-5 up after 15 and ran out 36-8 winners.

Rink scores, Pendine rinks first:

D. James, L. Dearne, C. Rance (capt), D. King Thomas 20 K. Lloyd, B. Benham, S. Davies, N. Dickinson 20.
