PENDINE 97 FIVE ARCHES 59
Last Saturday, Pendine played their last Division One game for this season at home. The season started with Pendine winning their first match at St. Thomas, Haverfordwest, and was finished off by winning against Five Arches (12 pts to two).
On rink three, Mal Evans’s rink was opposed by Johnathan Webb’s unit. Mal’s four were 6-4 up after five ends, roared ahead to 18-4 by the tea break and then won seven of the last 11 ends to win 28-12.
Rink four had Geoff Hale’s four versus Neil Dickinson’s quartet, who were 5-4 up after five ends and 10-5 up at the tea break. Pendine then really upped their game and were 15-13 by the 15th end and won the last six ends to win 28-13. (What a comeback).
Rink five had two opposing friends and stalwarts, DKT v Ashley Hooper’s four, who started well, with lead Mike Day in good form. The Arches were 9-5 up after five ends, but then Roger (Pendine) Davies at lead found his length, as did other team players, but they were still 8-12 down at 10 ends. It was nip and tuck thereafter, with the score 19-19 at 20 ends and a measure for shot on the last, which Arches won to sneak home 20-19.
Rink six saw brother Stewart KT skipping against the respected Simon Evans’s four and after five ends it was just 4-3 to Pendine. They increased this to 12-5 by the 10th, with third Arthur Collidge playing some extraordinary shots. They were pegged back to be only 14-11 up by the 15th, but won four of last six ends to triumph 22-14.
Rink scores (Pendine first) were as follows:
R. Davies, D. Stewart, J. Shields, M. Evans 28; P. Thomas, B. Benham, H. Nicholas, J. Webb 12.
A. Edwards, E. Davies, M. Dix, G. Hale (28); R. Thomas, T. Powling, V. John, N. Dickinson 13.
R. (Pendine) Davies, C. Rance (capt), A. Truelove, D. King-Thomas 19; M. Day, J. Hubbard, S. Davies, A. Hooper (capt) 20.
