Feedback from a free Wi-Fi service in Tenby which has been a ‘resounding success’ needs to be utilised to the benefit of the county’s tourism industry, a local county councillor stated this week.
The town has proved a ‘hotspot’ of success for internet users following the launch of the service providing free Wi-Fi access throughout the streets of the town walls, also covering beaches, the multi-storey car park and the train station.
The scheme, which has been supported by the Tenby Town Regeneration Team in partnership with Pembrokeshire County Council, has seen 6,500 individual users per day since its launch before the summer.
With Tenby the only town in Pembrokeshire to have the scheme up and running, and with half-a-million users logging into the Wi-Fi service since it went live, Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues once again at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday night, that the data captured could be invaluable to Pembrokeshire County Council, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and the Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism.
“The free Wi-Fi scheme has been such a resounding success, the info gained is too good to lose and it is up to these organisations to utilise it in some way,” he said.
Clr. Evans also relayed the success of the scheme to the county council’s tourism marketing and development manager, Alan Turner, who met with members on Tuesday night for a presentation on PCC’s ‘Promoting Pembrokeshire’ plans across social media and in the press.
The scheme has received support from a number of organisations and businesses in Tenby who are hosting Wi-Fi access points on their premises.
Anyone searching for an internet connection in the town will find Tenby Wi-Fi on their smart phone or tablet and will be guided through a simple process to register their device to the network.
