Pictured are pupils and their teachers from Dyffryn Taf school in Whitland who were busy working within the community last week to help create a new nature route and also to spruce up the Canolfan Hywel Dda gates.
A lovely new nature pathway was created within the woodland area at Parc Dr Owen which can be used to enjoy a quiet shady walk amongst birdsong or even for small children to cycle safely off road. The Parc committee have picnic benches ready to place in the area.
The Parc Committee said: “The work that the pupils of Dyffryn Taf have accomplished at the Parc is tremendous.
“We met them at the site yesterday and they were very enthusiastic about the project.
“As a committee, we fully support anything to do with the community using it for leisure purposes.”
Another project involved repainting the gates at Canolfan Hywel Dda. The work was very carefully done and of an excellent standard.
The committee from the Centre were absolutely delighted with the help which complimented the pretty pocket gardens, open daily for the community, and it was completed just in time for the Centre’s summer opening for visitors in July.
Rosie Davies, Welsh Baccalaureate co-ordinator said: “Helping our local community in this practical way has been a super way of developing young people’s sense of responsibility, problem solving skills, risk assessing and team working.
“Students have been glad to help, and feel valued with the positive comments they have received.
“We have been running a busy Community Week at Dyffryn Taf, also supporting The Trussell Trust Foodbank, Noah’s Ark Appeal, Surfers Against Sewage and Macmillan Cancer Support running campaigns which have raised over £1000.
“As a school we would like to continue to support other local community groups and charities, within the scope of this valuable qualification.
“Our thanks go to Whitland Town Council for their support in offering this opportunity.”
