Dyffryn Taf School competed in the largest online language competition, the Language Perfect World Championships, last week, and achieved third place in their category.
Sixty-five students participated in the event and competed for their class, school and country against other students around the world by earning points in a range of foreign languages.
The goal was to motivate students to get excited about learning languages and have fun at the same time.
In the competition, nine students achieved a Gold award for having learnt 3,000 words, nine achieved a Silver award for having learnt 2,000 words, 28 achieved a Bronze award for having learnt 1,000 words and 12 achieved Excellence certificates for mastering 500 words.
More than 100,000 pupils from around the world took part in this event, answering 25-million questions.
Many congratulations to Kayleigh Pearce (Yr 9), Sara Morgan (Yr 11), Bethan Yule (Yr 11), Harry Dickens (Yr 9), Rhys Thomas (Yr 8), Rebecca Mitchell (Yr 8), Laura Thomas (Yr 8), Jordan Thomas (Yr 10) and Martha Walters (Yr 10), who achieved a Gold award.
Harry Dickens in particular should be congratulated for having learnt 8,220 words, achieving the highest mark in Wales and being ranked 68th in the world.
