The monthly meeting was held at St. David's Avenue Community Room on Tuesday, September 30.

Members were offered a choice of four venues for this year's Christmas Dinner. After a vote, members chose The Falcon Hotel at Carmarthen.

Names and monies will be collected at the October meeting.

The chairman, Mrs. Pauline Richards, then introduced the speaker, Miss Josie Thomas, who spoke on the wartime exodus from Castlemartin, when framers had to get off their farms and homes to make way for the army tanks.

She spoke of the experiences of her family at the start of the war, which focused on the real hardships experienced by her parents, when they were made, at very short notice, to move to a very rundown farm and dilapidated farmhouse, near Fishguard.

She also included some quite light-hearted reminiscences of the time when she was a child.

It was particularly interesting for the chairman, as it turned out her grandparents had the farm next to Miss Thomas's parents and she could remember her as a child when visiting them.

They were able to chat about some shared experiences..

Miss Thomas was thanked by Pauline for her talk..
