Concerts in December began at the most special venue of the Great Hall at Picton Castle in Rhos. The clear acoustics of this lovely hall are a pleasure to sing in. No wonder the choir chose the hall to record their last CD. The men were in excellent voice that night, singing some of their lighter repertoire and a few specially prepared Christmas carols. Soloists for this occasion were Martyn and Hefina, who both sang some lesser-known Welsh carols.
During the month of December, the choir always visits a number of residential homes in the area. This year they went to see the residents at Ridgeway Home in Llawhaden, Blaenmarlais Home in Narberth and Plas y Dderwen Home in Johnston, Carmarthen.
One of the members, Ken Davies from Penglogue Farm, Whitland, is a resident at the home in Johnston. He has been there a number of years now and as a choir, they visit at least twice a year. Ken is always proud to welcome them to his home. He calls them'his choir' and dons his choir jumper and joins the ranks of the first tenors, as if he's never been away.
Soloists for the homes were Rob and Phil from the second tenor section, plus Hefina and Martyn sang especially for Ken in Johnston.
To complete a busy year, the choir sang at the Fishers Arms pub in Whitland. This doubled as a social evening for members, as well as an opportunity for the choir to thank the proprietors for accommodating them throughout the year.
Juliet, the choir's MD, had invited the wife of one of the choristers to sing at this special event. Donna, wife of Gareth Jones in the second tenor section, sang a number of songs in her inimitable 'bluesy' style. The choir sang a few items, but mainly the audience were encouraged to take part.
Rehearsals for 2015 have already begun, so anyone interested in 'sitting in' at a rehearsal can be sure of a very warm welcome.
