We have had a lot of enquiries about renewing bus passes recently; if you are not able to do this online yourself or with the help of a trusted friend or family member, then Transport for Wales are running drop-in sessions in libraries to renew bus passes for people. The drop-in sessions in Tenby Library will be on Monday and Friday, November 11 and 22, 10 am-1 pm. You will need to provide the number on your existing bus pass, your date of birth, postcode and National Insurance number. If you cannot make any of the drop-in sessions, then our Digital Champion Volunteer will be able to help you afterwards.

Digital Champion Volunteer Roger runs drop-in sessions on Mondays at 10 am - 12 pm, for anyone who has a question about their smartphone, laptop or tablet computer. Just bring your gadget along and ask your question. There’s no need to book and it’s free. If you have more in-depth questions for him, there are two bookable periods, one at 12 - 12.30 pm and the other at 12.30 - 1 pm.

The theme of Libraries Week (October 7-13) this year is Libraries in a Digital World. We have a display in the hallway promoting the online resources available to library members and to the general public who want to use our computers. Library members with smartphones, tablets (not Kindle) or computer access can borrow a wide range of e-books and e-audiobooks and read e-magazines completely for free through the libraries page of the council website www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/using-library-services/247-e-library.

Libraries Week is immediately followed by Get Online Week (October 14 - 20), so on Monday 14th we are holding a talk on Scam Awareness with Trading Standards officer Rebecca Elliott at 11 am. The talk will be about scams that are currently doing the rounds and also about safe online shopping. The talk will last about 30 minutes and Rebecca will be available afterwards to give individual advice.

Baby Rhyme Time is back for pre-school age children and their adults, with songs and stories. It’s on Tuesday mornings at 10.30 am - 11 am during term-time. There’s no need to book for this, just turn up and there’s no charge.

Back in May we held an event to make sensory mats as part of Dementia Awareness Week and it was quite well attended. Since then we’ve had a few more donated and last month site co-ordinator Leah Day distributed them to local care homes. We are very grateful to everyone who contributed mats and muffs. Sadly for us, Leah has now left us for a library post at Greenhill School; we wish her all the best.

New books in this month include novels by Philippa Gregory, Alexander McCall Smith, Danielle Steel and Lynda La Plante. Non-fiction new books include Menus that Made History, and Home Sweet Rented Home. New DVDs for rent include ‘The Hustle’ starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, and ‘Detective Pikachu’.

Orange recycling bags and food waste bags are available in the library; just ask at the counter. However, we do not hold any of the recycling boxes; they are at Tenby Leisure Centre and at the De Valance Pavilion. The new kerbside recycling collection service is due to start on November 4, so the new bags and boxes to be used should be delivered in October. More information about the new recycling scheme is on the Pembrokeshire County Council website at https://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/kerbside-collection.

The parking enforcement officers are still patrolling the library car park and may issue tickets to those who abuse the parking system. There are warning notices up around the car park. We have a number of short-stay bays immediately outside the library which can be used for up to 30 minutes (60 minutes with a Blue Badge) without a parking permit. These are clearly marked with 30-minute or 60-minute signs. Parking anywhere else in the car park requires a permit which can be obtained from staff.

For more information and booking, please call Tenby Library on 01437 775151 or 01834 843934 or email [email protected].
