On Friday in Tenby Library Hall, there is an illustrated talk called ‘A Passion for Pembrokeshire’ about the geology, history, wildlife and culture of this county. There is no charge for attending this talk, but booking is advised so ’phone Laura Evans on 01437 776639, email [email protected], or talk to library staff.
To mark Carers Week 2017, there is a drop-in session on Monday, June 12, in the library for registered carers. We will be serving tea and coffee and displaying a range of books from the Carers Book Collection. Our digital champion volunteer will be available if you need help with a computer, iPad, Tablet or Smartphone, and if you don’t have time to visit the library regularly, there is also a range of e-books, e-audio books and e-magazines which can be downloaded at home.
After a break for half-term, we are going back to having baby rhyme time every Friday morning, 11-11.45 am as usual. Songs, stories and craft activities for pre-schoolers and their grown-up. No booking is needed, and it’s free! For aspiring writers in Years 7-11 (ages 11-16), there is a creative writing workshop with published author Eloise Williams. This is on Saturday, June 24, 10.30-12.30; there is no charge for this and no need to book in advance.
There is another First Click computing course this month, on Thursday and Friday, June 29 and 30. First Click covers the basics of computing for complete beginners such as using a mouse, keyboard and email. There are only four places available on each course with two tutors, so the course can be about what you want it to be. Please talk to library staff to book a place.
On June 22, the Open University will have a display stand in the hallway outside the library, with an advisor on hand to answer any questions. The OU offer short courses as well as degree level courses. If you’re interested, come by and have a chat. The OU will also be in Saunderfoot Library on June 26.
We have a number of themed displays in the library this month; we have the long-list for the Wellcome Book Prize, which is offered to both fiction and non-fiction with a health and science theme; for those with a homicidal inclination, we have the long-list of the Theakston Crime Novel of the Year; there is a collection of Travellers’ Tales for the armchair explorer; and we are celebrating Women in Sport Week (June 19-24) with a display of sporting books both in Tenby Library and in the Fit Library in Tenby Leisure Centre.
