Where might you see Dorothy, a lion, a scarecrow and a tin man driving a Tuk Tuk? Well in Kilgetty and the surrounding villages on Tinman Tuesdays of course!
A fleet of Tinman Tuk Tuks took to the streets on Tuesday. Whilst making their essential shopping deliveries for the community, the Tuk Tuk Team collected tins and other items donated by residents for local foodbanks.
The Tinman Kilgetty And Surrounding Areas team have joined with Wyndham William’s Tinman Tuesday project designed to support Pembrokeshire foodbanks by collecting tins from outside people’s homes on Tuesdays. The tins are then delivered to the local foodbanks ready for onward delivery to those in need.
After seeing the Tinman Tuesday launch in Narberth posted on Facebook and reported in the Tenby Observer last week, Sharron Hardwick contacted Wyndham to ask if they could have a similar project in and around Kilgetty. He gave them the go ahead so Sharron contacted Lorraine Niederlag at Tuk Tuk Time and Wendy Morse from Pembrokeshire Sewers to see if they could help; they agreed and it all started there.
“We are so fortunate to have people who care in our community. It is people like Wyndham, Wendy, Lorraine and all at Tuk Tuk Time that help to make a difference and are a real lifeline to so many people. Now that Tuk Tuk Time are organising and running the Tinman Tuesday collections at 9.30 am onwards on Tuesdays in Kilgetty and nearby areas they will be helping even more people and giving the community a chance to help others too,” said Sharron.
Thanks are expressed to Kilgetty, Begelly, Stepaside & Pentlepoir Community Voice Facebook page for their help in promoting Tinman Tuesday and to the telephone team of Tuk Tuk Time for taking your phone calls to request a pick-up and to Teagan, Tuk Tuk time volunteer, for collating the collection details.
In the first Kilgetty and surrounding areas tin run there were over 20 pick-ups where lots of items were collected by the Tuk Tuks.
